Now that my addiction for small pistols and revolvers has been partially sated I have decided to return to another passion of mine: blades.
I purchased a Spyderco TATANKA a few weeks ago and let me tell you this thing is a wonderful handful!
I will post a thorough review after I use it for a bit and open up a photo account.
But for now let's get back to the thread title.
I ordered the Blackjack 1-7 Commando in stacked leather and it's listed as using A2 tool steel, and the other 1-7 with stacked leather and Sabre grip shows it having 1095CRYO steel.
Are these older models that are still in stock or brand new?
Because other sites show them as having A2 steel like the Commando.
Which is a better steel?
Ray Also, if I find this knife to be as fun as it looks I may end up buying a Randall, for sure a model 25.
The wait time is kind of a turn off, but.

View Quote The A2 ones are definitely the "newer" steel.
BlackJack Knives are made by Bark River Knife and Tool Bark River Knives and their heat treat on A2 is fantastic.
One of my very favorite knives the the Bravo One which is A2.
The steel in 1-7s has changed at least a couple times over the years as the brand name changed hands.
Any one of the steels in the 1-7 is going to be excellent, be it a 1095 variant or an A2 variant.
I've read that these knives come razor-sharp and hold an edge after some good use.
There's even an old SWAT magazine article that compares the Bark River 1 to the Randall 1 that was pretty informative.
I really, really want a Randall 25 but they don't have all leather handles as an option unlike the Bark River 125.
I like the looks of stag handles, they give a certain please click for source style that old school look, but I wonder how slippery they would get with hard use.
Again, thanks for your info.

It's my second favorite full size knife design.
Those spacers at the hilt and pommel really bring attention to the handle material, whatever it may be.
Have you used it in the field?
It looks too nice for me to want to use it,lol!

View Quote I absolutely use it.
It's not as pretty now.
The 125 series literally jumps into your hand and it's ready to roll.
Just a damn good blade design.
Do click the following article regret ordering the 1-7 first.
Speaking of handles getting slippery.
If you have to work a blade a LOT you don't want it to be sticker or rubbery.
That being said, I have not had a problem with my 125 being too slippery at all.

What you said about jumping in your hand.
It just looks like a very controllable and easy to use blade.
What do you use for the leather sheaths?
I was thinking of buying some beeswax really. blackjack hit or stand game idea the stitching and some neatsfoot oil for the handle and sheath.

View Quote For holsters and sheaths do NOT use Neatsfoot, it tends to soften the leather TOO much.
Use Obenauf's heavy duty leather protectant.
A 4 ounce jar will last you forever.
It is AWESOME stuff!!!!
Obenouf's, I'll have to get some next time I go to the sporting goods store.
I looked it up, seems like some good stuff.

View Quote Hey there!
I actually sold my M96 quite some time ago.
I really liked it.
They should have stuck to the material sciences but left the design to what Eugene Stoner intended.
Had Robinson done that.
